Join family and friends for Wendy Wayne's Celebration of Life on Saturday July 7, 2012 at 2:00pm at the Fox Theater.

Wendy Wayne, a longtime advocate for children's issues, succumbed Sunday after a battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Wayne worked in as a nurse, childbirth educator, teacher, Kern County planning commissioner and administrator for two local nonprofit organizations. She also traveled around the world - including India, Nicaragua, Nigeria and the Sudan - advocating for children's health. Wayne was inducted in 2008 into the California State University, Bakersfield Alumni Association Hall of Fame. She earned a nursing degree from CSUB, in addition to a bachelor's in zoology from the University of California, Los Angeles. She was married to Gene Tackett, had two sons, two daughters-in-law and three grandchildren, according to a bio published last year when she was a commencement speaker at CSUB. Wayne was 64.
